My Craft and Art

About me

I was born and raised in Purmerend, where I still reside. From an early age, I have had a deep affection for antiquities and history, which soon led me to the path of violin making.

After completing my studies at the Wood and Furniture College in Amsterdam, specializing in restoration, I apprenticed with a master of the Dutch Violin Makers’ Guild. There my passion for the craft was kindled, and since the year 2023 I have dedicated myself entirely to the building of baroque violins.

I craft each instrument entirely by hand, as was once done: the neck fixed with nails, strung with gut strings, and made from local woods, as was customary, without exotic or foreign materials.

I do not create exact copies of existing violins, but draw inspiration from the works of the old masters, building upon their style with variations in form and size, so that every musician may find something suited to them.

What gives me joy is that my work does not merely produce an instrument for sound, but also a mirror of my own soul and devotion. For the future, I hope that more musicians will rediscover the treasures of historically accurate instruments, and that my work may help keep the old tradition alive for generations to come.
